Asia-Pacific Teacher Exchange for Global Education

Short-term Teacher Exchange Programme (ROK-Mongolia)

  • Dates
    • Mongolian teachers to Mongolia : April - June 2012 (3 months), May - July 2012 (3 months)
    • Korean teachers to Mongolia and Mongolian teachers to Republic of Korea : September – November 2012 (3 months)
  • Venue : Mongolia, Republic of Korea
  • Participants : 40 pre-service and in-service Korean teachers and 40 in-service Mongolian teachers(20 teachers per activity)
  • Main Contents
    • Pre-departure training & field exercise: Programme orientation, capacity-building workshops, and field exercise at Mongolian schools in Korea
    • Teaching activities
      (Korean teachers to Mongolia) working as assistant teachers for 3 months for the subjects of their majors at primary and secondary schools in Mongolia; and conducting their individual projects
      (Mongolian teachers to Republic of Korea) working as assistant teachers for 3 months for the subjects of their majors at elementary, middle and high schools in ROK; and conducting ‘mobile EIU classes’ at the districts of placement
    • Development of teaching/learning materials and curricula: collaborating between visiting teachers and host teachers on the development of supplementary teaching materials and lesson plans of the subject-in-charge
    • Evaluation and monitoring: Periodic report submission during teaching activities; monthly presentations and mid-point monitoring
    • Final presentation: Presentation on the outputs of the individual projects and conferring of awards for outstanding examples of teachers' activities

Long-term Teacher Exchange Programme (ROK-Philippines)

  • Dates
    • Korean teachers: August 2012 –January 2013 (6 months)
    • Filipino teachers: October~December 2012 (3 months)
  • Venues : Philippines, Republic of Korea
  • Participants : 20 pre-service and in-service Korean teachers and 30 in-service Filipino teachers
  • Main Contents
    • Pre-departure training & field exercise: Programme orientation, capacity-building workshops, and field exercise at multicultural education pilot schools in Korea
    • Teaching activities
      (Korean teachers to Philippines) working as assistant teachers for 6 months for the subjects of their majors at primary and secondary schools in the Philippines, and conducting their individual projects
      (Filipino teachers to ROK) working as assistant teachers for 6 months in subjects of their major at elementary, middle and high schools in ROK; and conducting ‘mobile EIU classes’ at the districts of placement
    • Activities as school-network coordinator: Work as coordinator-in-charge for active school-to-school exchange and networking during teaching activity period
    • Development of teaching/learning materials and curricula: collaborating between visiting teachers and host teachers on the development of supplementary teaching materials and lesson plans of the subject-in-charge

Pilot Teacher Exchange Programme with Developing Countries

  • Dates : June - November 2012 (6 months)
  • Venues : Sri Lanka
  • Participants : 5 Korean language teacher's certificate holders
  • Main Contents : Korean language training for 6 months to local in-service teachers

Consultation Meetings for Pilot Exchange Programme

  • Dates : May - September 2012 (1 week each)
  • Venues : Indonesia, Republic of Korea, Thailand, Vietnam
  • Participants : Task force team for each country, consisted of 5 persons, including programme coordinators and representatives of Korean stakeholders (1 from MEST, 2 from APCEIU and 1 teacher representative); and potential partners and stakeholders of each country visited
  • Main Contents
    • Consultation meetings with local stakeholders and potential partners
    • Field visits to schools and relevant venues for information collection and feasibility check

Development of Co-teaching Plans and teaching/learning Materials

  • Dates: Year-round in 2012
  • Venues : Mongolia, Philippines, Republic of Korea
  • Participants : Teachers participating in the Programme and EIU experts
  • Main Content : Co-teaching lesson plans and teaching/learning materials on EIU and multicultural education to be used at schools in the participating countries
  • Outputs
    • Two types of lesson plans (modules) to be made in printed materials and CDs (5000 sets per type)
    • Two types of teaching/learning materials on EIU and multicultural education to be made in books (1000 copies per type) and CDs (3000 copies per type)
Teaching Abroad for Global Competency

Short-term Teaching Abroad Programme

  • Dates
    • Korean teachers to participating countries: Jan – Feb 2012 (4 weeks)
    • Foreign teachers to Republic of Korea : May – July 2012 (4 weeks)
  • Venues: Australia, Singapore, UK, US and Republic of Korea
  • Partner Organizations: Universities and educational institutions in the participating countries
  • Participants: 35 in-service Korean teachers and 35 in-service foreign teachers from the participating countries
  • Main Contents
    • Preparatory training: programme orientation and global competence-building workshop
    • Programme development and monitoring: programme development for the participating teachers’ teaching activities at the host schools (class observation, co-teaching and assistant teacher activities ), coordination with the host schools, and monitoring
    • Final workshop: final presentation and evaluation of the teaching activities

Long-term Teaching Abroad programme for In-service Teachers

  • Dates: September 2012 – February 2013 (6 months)
  • Venues: Australia, Singapore, UK, US and Republic of Korea
  • Partner Organizations: Universities of education and educational institutions abroad
  • Participants: 20 in-service Korean teachers
  • Main Contents
    • Preparatory training : programme orientation and global competence-building workshop
    • Programme development and monitoring : selection of the host institutions, coordination with the host schools, and monitoring
    • Final workshop : final presentation and evaluation of teaching activities

Long-term Teaching Abroad Programme for Pre-service Teachers

  • Dates : August 2012 – May 2013 (10 months)
  • Venues : Fairfax County, Virginia, US
  • Partner Organizations : Fairfax County Department of Education
  • Participants : 20 Korean pre-service teachers
  • Main Contents
    • Preparatory training : programme orientation and global competence-building workshop
    • Programme development and monitoring: selection of the host institutions, coordination with the host schools, and monitoring
    • Final workshop: final presentation and evaluation of teaching activities
