APCEIU Signs a MOU with Chiang Mai University for the Establishment of a GCED Cooperation Centre

15 November 2021 UNESCO Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding (hereafter referred to as APCEIU, represented by Director Hyunmook Lim) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Chiang Mai University to strengthen cooperation for Global Citizenship Education (GCED).


This MOU is part of UNESCO APCEIU’s Global Citizenship Education Cooperation Centre initiative, launched this year, which aims to strengthen GCED capacities of Teacher Education Institutes (TEIs) in New Southern countries.


In accordance with the MOU, the two organizations plan to expand their cooperation on various activities over the next five years for the operation of the GCED Cooperation Centre, such as teacher training, development of materials, policy research, human exchanges, and sharing of information. In particular, they plan to conduct a GCED workshop for students at the Faculty of Education, Chiang Mai University  on 27-29 November.


Located in Chiang Mai, in northern Thailand, Chiang Mai University is the first higher education institution in northern Thailand, and the nation’s first provincial university. The university has participated in various UNESCO APCEIU GCED programmes.


APCEIU will continue to establish GCED Cooperation Centres with Teacher Education Institutes (TEIs) in major New Southern countries such as the Philippines, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos and Vietnam.
